I Am Link

Even though the holidays are a slightly slower time for movie news I'll never catch up with everything, so here's a random brief sampling of some stuff that happened slash matters. If there's something you think I need to know that I am not mentioning, tell me in the comments! You know me best.

--- Go Down Guys - The first thing that struck me watching the trailer for Colin Farrell's new movie Dead Man Down was how stylish it is; I suppose the director of the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movies was excited to actually have some money to play with now, and it shows. The second thing I noticed was there wasn't nearly enough of Dominic Cooper, or of Dominic Cooper's puprle underpants, or of Dominic Cooper and Colin Farrell making out....

--- Hed Space - The Film Experience had tons and tons of great content over the holidays, you could just plop yourself over there and veg out for a couple of hours and be totally satisfied. But I will link directly to Nat's take on On the Road because he and I are of like minds with regards to Garrett Hedlund's oozing-sex performance therein.

--- Rock Gods - That movie where Michael Fassbender will be playing some kind of a rock star? Maggie Gyllenhaal just joined the cast, bringing me one step closer to my lustful Fassy-on-Jake fantasies coming true. I would probably explode if they were ever captured in a picture together, wouldn't I?

--- Front Man - Marvel is still trying to figure out who will play the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and now Joseph Gordon-Levitt's name is being tossed about. That would be weird, what with the whole Batman thing.

--- Step Mama - I'm totally looking forward to seeing Mama, the horror movie with Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Wadlau that Guillermo Del Toro produced; it's out in a couple weeks. Slash has the original short film upon which the movie's based for your viewing pleasure, along with some commentary from GDT himself. I'm not watching this until I see the full-length version, personally.

--- Next District - Sharlto Copley, so terrific and adorable in Neil Blomkamp's District 9, is completely unrecognizable as the bad guy in Blomkamp's next film, Elysium, as you can see there (via). Elysium's not out until August; it also stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster

--- String Scene - You can stream Jonny Greenwood's score for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master over here, which includes a lot of music that wasn't on the official soundtrack release I guess.
.
--- And finally The Playlist has started listing their 100 most anticipated 2013 movies, which I need to go through post-haste and see what's up. Let's hope it's a good year!
