It's roughly 15 seconds longer, and at 00:57 there's a scene that has all the fans screaming (me included).
Perhaps I'm misinformed, but hearing that ST2 was an adaptation/rip-off/whatever of "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was an incredible disappointment. (Jeez, there are hundreds of space-opera novels that could very easily be adapted for the Roddenberry universe, why not use one of those?) While seeing the Enterprise get blown up is always a joy, I just can't get motivated. Maybe on DVD... (And since I'm no fan of Benedict C.--I couldn't watch Sherlock past episode one--that isn't a motivator either.)
