It’s All Dead Dogs and Peed-Upon Jellyfish

Disney summarily fired him, saying he used company resources to make a movie that was too scary for children. (If he’d made a movie where a baby deer’s mommy got her brains blown out they would’ve been fine though.) Thankfully for Burton, and for the rest of us, Paul Reubens saw Frankenweenie and loved it and hired Tim to make Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, and the rest is black-and-white-striped history. I highly recommend you click on over for what I wrote about the latter because I had a lot of fun with those sentences. ("Bleach-fried cornpone," nuff said.) It is a movie that's a blast to write about, even if it doesn't entirely click into place like I'd hoped it would. Nicole's terrific though, as is Macy Gray (What? I don't know.) and Zac really does spend at least half of his time in his underpants so, you know, there's that.
