I Am Link

.
--- Goody Allen - If you've been following us for awhile here at MNPP - that's the royal "us," aka me and all my thousands of personalities - then you've seen my hard-on for Joan Allen before. (I don't mean literal hard-on, because... well, I just don't.) So news that she's finally grabbing onto a meaty role and more than that it's the lead in a Stephen King adaptation, well, color me happy. We told you about A Good Marriage back in May - it was one of the stories in his 2009 collection of novellas Full Dark No Stars, and we haven't read it. Still haven't. The movie, which Joan's now set to lead, is about a woman who finds out her husband's led a double life, and something tells me it's a sinister development...

--- Sin Maker - William Friedkin's using his heat off of (the mediocre if you ask me) Killer Joe to line up another project, maybe - a revenge thriller starring Nicholas Cage called I Am Wrath. It's about a man seeking vengeance for his murdered wife and yes I almost fell asleep typing that sentence so I can only imagine how you felt reading it.

--- Call The Infantry - Wanna know what's weird? I don't think I've said jack about Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D TV show spin-off about the Marvel universe's premier government agency. Not a peep. That's weird. Well here's something: MTV chatted with Joss a bit about it up in Toronto - where his Much Ado About Nothing seems to have gotten a lovely reception; Lionsgate picked it up for distribution - and he says it will feature an entirely new cast, separate from all the Cobie Smulderses and Sam Jacksons that've dominated the agency's movie presence.

--- First Couple - Did you see the picture Oprah posted of herself (naturally she's in it - have you seen the covers of her magazine?) alongside Jane Fonda and Alan Rickman dressed up as Nancy and Ronald Reagan for Lee Daniels' next movie? I wrote about it over at The Film Experience - it's pretty striking. Here's a fun-fact - I am a not-so-distant relative of Nancy's.

--- Sexual Christian - I also wrote at The Film Experience about Christian Slater of all people just joining the cast of Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac - an odd but interesting choice, methinks. Especially if he looks like he looks in that picture to the left there.

--- Post Rimmed - Guillermo Del Toro's big monsters versus robots movie Pacific Rim, out next Summer, is getting converted to 3D says STYD. Blecch. Then again, Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba in 3D...

--- Claire And Co. - I myself haven't read this yet but I told y'all to keep up with my friend Sean's recaps of the first season of Homeland, in prep for him recapping the upcoming second season for Rolling Stone, and here's his take on the second thru fifth episodes right here. Hurray Homeland!

"A Good Marriage" is one of the better stories in Full Dark, No Stars and indeed would give Joan a lot of range. Definitely much more psychological, under-the-skin horror. It's been a while since I've read it so some of the details are blurry. Here's hoping it turns out to be in the better pile of Stephen's movie adaptations then the huge pile of bad ones.

Oh that's excellent. I loved that story, though never played "imaginary movie cast" for it in my head. But Joan Allen? That's just dead on! Ah the happy!
