They've Made It Official...

.
... after weeks of speculation, Sam Claflin has been cast in Catching Fire, aka The Hunger Games: Part II, in the much sought after role of champion-whore Finnick Odair. I have made my opinion clear. You have too. I guess he showed them something we the public haven't seen yet. It's not that I don't find him attractive - I have ogled his bum plenty. But hey I wasn't sold on JLaw as Katniss outta the gate either and she changed my mind. I'll just have to wait and see how the fishnet fits, I suppose.

Ugh. I'm beyond "not sold on him". He has never shown ANY of the charisma or magnetic energy (or MUSCLES) that Finnick is supposed to have, in any of his previous film roles. Also doesn't he seem too short to play Finnick? Am I wrong or wasn't Finnick supposed to be really tall?

Anyway, I'm underwhelmed to say the least.

I watched it this weekend and it seems casting is this film's bigger pro and con. Jennifer Lawrence, Wes Bentley, Stanley Tucci and Elizabeth Banks were all very well cast but Kato and Peeta WTF? Kato looks like he should be doing jazz hands on some Disney channel musical. At least in Battle Royale (go ahead and roll your eyes) they cast people who made the violent kids look threatening.

I think with this Finnick it's a repeat of the first film's wishywashy casting, Phillip Seymour Hoffman = brilliant, the kid from Pirates of the Caribbean = not so brilliant.
