The Moment I Fell For... Bob Hoskins

When I linked over to the sad news earlier this week that Bob Hoskins was retiring because of Parkinsons for some reason it was this moment in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? that I alluded to; I'm not sure why it was the first thing that popped (bounced, you might say) into my head... maybe it was the fact that Hoskins swans around shirtless for the majority of this scene and this was that time in my life where I was really noticing such things and the effect they had on me, so it remained memorable...

Anyway this movie was the first time I saw Hoskins in anything, and he gives such a dedicated, in-it-to-win-it performance as Eddie Valiant that I can't see the movie working without him... but I do wonder how Zemeckis got away with casting him. Has anybody ever heard either of them talk about it? There must have been more traditional leading men that wanted the role. Did anybody expect this film to be such a hit? I mean Zemeckis had already made Back to the Future so they must've been eyeing this for big things. All eleven-year old me knew was what a blast it was - ahh, the times when you could just enjoy the movies, and not dissect them for months slash years beforehand. Them were the days...

The first time I, too, fell for Bob Hoskins was watching him walk around shirtless in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" WOOF.
