Thursdays Ways Not To Die

Rule #1 - All evil guys don't wear eye-patches, 

but all guys who wear eye-patches are evil.

See? They poison innocent date palms!

The dates are just sitting there, minding their own business,

when wham, poisoned now.

And then the evil eye-patched guys scamper away 

like jittery cartoon chipmunks.

Cue the unsuspecting (or semi-suspecting, I guess, 

but not enough to do anything about it) servant boy, 

who will soon be heading into the next room...

... where our hero Indiana Jones awaits.

Also there: an old wise man, his pal Sallah, 

and a thieving pet monkey.

Indiana goes right for a date.

So does the monkey.

And now it's a waiting game. Indiana strolls around, working out his theories with Sallah and the wise man, all while gesturing with the food that could spell his DOOM. This scene's straight out of the Alfred Hitchcock's bomb theory playbook. (Read about that here.) This is how suspense is built - we know the fruit is poisoned, we know the bomb is ticking away underneath the table...

... and now we're just waiting for the kaboom.

"WAIT!"

And the waiting game continues for another minute. 

Until...

... we're about to explode...

Kaboom. 

 Poor dead monkey. Never stood a chance.

Which brings us to Rule #2:

Heroes mourn monkeys,

not the other way around.
