--- Hot Chaps - Who saw Magic Mike this weekend? I'm guessing a lot of you since it made a pretty hefty sum at the box office, at least compared to what people expected from a male stripper movie in June. Anyway let me know what you thought - I know it's been pretty divisive; a lot of people bored by all the plot and hating on the leading lady. If you read my review you know I'm not in that camp, but I can understand the reactions. Wanting two hours of just Bomer ass isn't to be helped. I didn't get a chance to link this up last week but EW has a terrific bunch of behind-the-scenes details from it.
--- Off the Chain - A sixty second teaser for Django Unchained aired at the BET Awards last night and you can watch it over at Slash. They've also got some quotes from one of the film's producer on how the movie treats the topic of slavery and I loved this bit which reminded me of Tarantino's handling of the Holocaust in Inglourious Basterds:
--- People Peeper - Cute nerd Justin Long is going to make another horror movie, maybe - he's starred in a couple of good ones already with the first Jeepers Creepers and Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell. This new one is an adaptation of Stephen King's short story "The Ten O'Clock People" from Tom Holland, the director of Child's Play.
--- The Blackfish - Lady Catelyn's brother uncle Brynden has been cast on A Game of Thrones - it's the British actor Clive Russell, and I have no idea who he is. He sounds large.
"... I just felt like these [slavery themed] movies should be exciting, they should be action-packed and most of all, I felt like they should have plenty of kicking ass because at the end of the day, the world needs black people who fought back."
--- Tall Order - Like I say with every trailer that comes out for a movie I have every intention of seeing, I will not be watching this international trailer at The Playlist for French director Pascal Lugier's new movie The Tall Man, aka his follow-up to the horror masterpiece Martyrs. I don't need to spoil myself, since I am sold. But maybe you want it. So there it is.

--- And finally, here's a couple of reviews worth your time and eyeballing efforts - Nat liked Magic Mike maybe even a little bit more than I did (his grade a smidge higher, at least), and then this piece on Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom is a lovely read. I also loved that movie. There is stuff worth seeing in theaters right now, is my point!

I'm in the "a bit boring and hated the leading lady" camp. I found her to be so grating and unlikable that it made no sense to me that he would be attracted to her. I think the pacing of the movie was just a bit off. Excuse the expression but it shot it's wad early on and then just limped from there.
I realize that the plot was built around Mike and The Kid but it would have been nice to have the other dancers humanized with some back story vs. your typical caricatures. Personally, I wanted more of what it takes to be a dancer (physically and emotionally) than one training with Dallas (which was hilarious) and then you're good to go.
Upon second viewing the lead actress didn't bother me as much and I enjoyed the movie and Channing Tatum even more.
BTW, I think you meant Catelyn's uncle Brynden. Which explains why he looks so much older.
