I Am Link

.
--- Pump Up The Man - Living up to his character's name, Joe Manganiello's "'Big Dick' Richie" is the only character showing off the peen in Steven Soderbergh's male stripper opus Do the Right Thong, according to "sources" (read: publicists). However, it's a fake dong a la Boogie Nights. Cheat. The words "third leg" are invoked. Whatever. In the wake of Fassbender this sort of thing seems pretty limp.

--- Past Saturn - And next for Magic Mike star Channing Tatum is the new action movie from the Wachowskis called Jupiter Ascending, which he was rumored for a few weeks back. No word if the other person in that casting rumor Mila Kunis is set or not. Says Tatum: "They're going to reinvent the wheel as far as action goes, all over again."

--- Devil Beater - And the directors of Channing's recent hit film 21 Jump Street are lining up their next project, which will be an adaptation of the long gestating adaptation of the book Carter Beats the Devil, about a magician. I'd offer more of its plot but it's been so long since I read it and I've been through so many magician stories since then I can't recall its specifics.

--- Redroverify - Speaking of books, has anybody read James Sallis' novel Drive on which the wonderful Ryan Gosling movie was based? Apparently there's a second book called Driven and Sallis says that a movie version is in the pipeline. Will a third be called Drove? Driver? Driving Miss Gosling? Stay tuned!

--- The Most Dangerous Button - These links are all semi-connected today - Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn is maybe working on an adaptation of the graphic novel Button Man, which sounds like The Most Dangerous Game only with really hardcore assassins being the ones forced to hunt each other. Will he work with somebody not named Ryan Gosling this time? The dude on the cover looks like Nicky Coster-Waldau to me, so I'm starting that casting rumor now.

--- Cumberbatch Kids - Sherlock and probable Khan Benedict Cumberbatch (say all that five times fast) has joined the cast of Steve McQueen's slave movie with Fassy and Chiwetol Ejiofor called Twelve Years a Slave. This news is welcome not just because it allows me to post that recent picture of a beefed-up Benedict at the beach.

--- Grand High - He's been working on so many things I'd completely forgotten about this one, and since it's not good news I guess that's for the best - Guillermo Del Toro says there's no motion on his stop-motion adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches. Not that this is Earth-shatteringly terrible news - we already have a movie of it, and that movie is terrific.

--- Metal Heavy - I have not read through this but Collider chatted with the new Robocop The Killing star Joel Kinnaman about what we should expect from that movie.

--- And Holler - Apparently MTV wants to make a TV series out of Scream. No word if Kevin Williamson or Wes Craven are involved; my guess would be they are not. And I have no idea how you make a show out of a series about killing all its own characters - how would that last past two episodes? Oh whoops everybody's dead now, the end.
