Take The Good Take The Bad Then You Have

.
In the plus column, and this is a huge plus, massive, we've got news that Edgar Wright is getting ready to direct again! It's been far far too long since Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and while we're sitting on our thumbs waiting for something to happen with his third flick with Simon Pegg it's good to see him doing something. And a good something at that! Deadline says he's going to direct the big-screen reimagining of the 70s television series The Night Stalker. If you're unfamiliar, fix that - paranormal investigator Carl Kolchak, as immortalized by Darren McGavin, is one of the most iconic of horror TV characters.

But that's where the minus comes in - Johnny Depp is set to play the new Kolchak. Once upon a time we loved Depp, but he's become nothing but insufferable mugging this past decade, and if he outfits Carl in some silly fright-wig with a bunch of schticky mannerisms I will cry. Hopefully Edgar can rein him in where Tim Burton's failed time and time again. Deadline also mentions that Disney will no doubt want at least a PG-13 for these, but since the original series is TV friendly and still very scary this doesn't upset me that much. We don't really need this to be hard R to work.

Yeah, Depp has become beyond tiresome. But I still can't wait to see Dark Shadows! Hope he doesn't muck up my beloved Barnabas Collins.

That's what I keep saying about Depp. But everytime I do, people look at me like I've gone completely insane.

I'm already dreading Depp fucking up Barnabas Collins; he has to scissorhands this too?
