--- In The Armie - God,
the trailer for Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar movie makes it look like something we've seen a thousand times over already, doesn't it? The hints of hand-holding and meaningful glances and then vein-throbbing bellowing between Leo and Armie Hammer does spice it up a notch or two, but mostly, meh I couldn't care much less. We'll see what people say, I suppose. ETA Nat's
"Yes No Maybe So" take on the movie finds him right about the same place as me.
. --- Rightful Wrath - Reading
Glenn's take on Aguirre, The Wrath of God, Herzog's glorious 1972 love letter to monkeys and insanity, reminded me that for all my "I'm the biggest fan of Werner Herzog evah!" crowing I still have never seen
Fitzcarraldo. I know.
--- Bonnie Two - I was totally wrong when I said
yesterday that the remake of
Bonnie & Clyde with Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers had been canned - I guess it was just that Duff had to bow out because she's pregnant or something, and
she's now been replaced by the Lady Werepanther herself, Lindsay Pulsipher of
True Blood fame. Right, that should make all the difference...
--- Mister America - Over at the HP
they've got some chat with Chris Evans on where Cappy stands come
The Avengers, how he's in a slightly darker place since everyone he knew and loved is, you know, totally dead now that it's the future for him, as well as how he realized Joss Whedon is the audience for this movie so if Joss was happy, he was happy. Oh and there's some rhapsodizing of Robert Downey Jr. that I'm choosing to ignore, natch.
--- Carefree Coppola - I'm really kind of curious about Francis Ford Coppola's
Twixt - the last time he took on horror he made the eminently watchable
Bram Stoker's Dracula, after all. The reviews have been all over the place - FFC's really just said fuck it these days and does whatever he wants, and I admire that... but at the same time, I dunno if I want to much watch Val Kilmer huffing and puffing about, either.
This review at Twitch is definitely in the pro camp.
--- Wake Up - I never got around to writing up my own thoughts on
Wake Wood, the recent Hammer effort that's a little bit
The Wicker Man and a lot of
Pet Semetary, and now that
Arbogast just expressed everything I might have only a thousand times better I'll just link to him and call it a day. Okay I will give a shout-out to longtime love Aidan "Littlefinger" Gillen, who's come a long way from
nuzzling Charlie Hunnam's bum and
tonsils.
And as long as you're over at Arbo's,
read this lil' ode to a scene in
Source Code that I too admired.
