This movie and Coppola's 'One From The Heart' show two talented filmmakers trying to make a tribute to the musicals of the 1940s - 1950s. That's "tribute" as in "eulogy".

Meanwhile it was Bob Fosse's movies that were actually creating a new style of musical.

Anyway, 'NY,NY' is certainly worth seeing for the oddness factor.

I love this movie (wasn't quick enough to answer but recognized the third frame pretty instantly, and then the first..).
I admit that it's far from perfect, and too long, but I love the music and De Niro and Minelli are great.
You should see it!
