So here we be. There's not much info but the tib-bit we do have (via STYD) grabbed my eye:
"The man behind this year's horror hit, Insidious, has a new film in development.... James Wan might next direct Spectre. Variety says that Nicole Kidman is circling a leading role.
No other details about the project were revealed, but it might be safe to presume that Wan is entering the realm of the supernatural again."
I do love the idea of Nicole Kidman seeing fit to make another ghost movie, but I liked The Others so much - and continue to like it; I might be the only person on Earth who's enjoyed watching it multiple times, even with the "twist" spoiled - that I wonder if she might be setting herself up against difficult comparisons. She's so good in Amenabar's film, and the atmosphere just drips off the screen. Still, fingers crossed! Make a dozen ghost movies, Nicole! I'll show up to every single one.

It galls me that movies like The Others are "spoiled" and un-rewatchable, while books with twist endings like The Turn of the Screw are considered enduring classics.
I love The Others, too. It's so well made that it still sucks you in. Ms. Kidman is great in it and her scene with Christopher Eccleston is so heartbreaking.
Sing it, mb. Take The Sixth Sense for example - I actually didn't like that movie much at all the first time I saw it, when the whole focus was on THE TWIST. I watched it a few years later and it was a totally different movie for me, and I liked it so much more when I could focus in on the character work and the way Night layers the story. It's obviously not this way with every TWIST movie, a lot of them do fall apart on further inspection, but The Others sure ain't one of em for me. Beisdes Nic, those kids are so good, and
Fionnula Flanagan never ceases freaking me out, and the film is so beautifully shot - the way the house cocoons itself inward with darkness until its a tomb, and those scenes with the fog and Eccleston - swoon. Love it.
The Others is incredible no matter how many times I've seen it.
I love this appreciation for The Others. It's a fantastic film and Nicole is fantastic in it (it was all about her that year for me, she gave my two fave leading performances).
Since you mentioned Amenabar and I know you like Weisz, did you ever see Agora J?
I know this post is rather old, but you are definitely NOT the only person, JA (as I can see by the comments here); I watched it five times in one weekend (admittedly, at home; still kicking myself that I didn't see this or Moulin Rouge at the theaters. What was i thinking?) when I first saw it, cried for days, got the DVD for X-mas, watched it again...admittedly it's been a while, and a reviewing is probably in order.
I did see The Sixth Sense in theaters twice, which I rarely do; and one being close to other did not spoil The Other's particular charms for me. A well-made riveting story is a well-made riveting story. Period.
