What did I say this morning? I said it seemed like we really should be getting an official announcement about who'd be playing Peeta and Gale in The Hunger Games
this week. And lo, behold! Via Deadline:

Via Deadline:"Josh Hutcherson has now been set by director Gary Ross to play the baker's son Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth is set to play Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games. They will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence in what is expected to be a trilogy of films based on the Suzanne Collins novels. These were two the most coveted roles for young actors this year."

Also, I just read the first book yesterday, and did they cast Jennifer Lawrence b/c her character in Winter's Bone is basically the same? Also, there is some stuff in there that will not work in a movie.

I'm happy w/the Peeta choice.
I was an early Hunter-Parrish-for-Peeta supporter, but Josh Hutcherson is fine w/me. From what I've read, he loves the books and really wanted the role, while HP was rather distant about the whole thing. And he's been good in everything I've seen him do.
I've never seen Liam Hemsworth in anything, so I've got no reaction to the Gale choice.
Now let's have Hunter Parrish for Finnick.

I do believe RJ meant WE'RE OLD, bcarter3. Or at least it means I AM OLD. So so old.
I've only seen Liam in Triangle and he was fine. Fine as in hot, and fine as in adequately talented.
No significance. It's just strange to think of people born in the '90s being successful since I still think of people born in the 90s as babies.
I agree with bcarter: Josh Hutcherson I think is an excellent choice. I haven't seen Hemsworth in anything yet, so I'll withhold judgement. Hunter Parrish as Finnick would be an excellent choice.
RJ I do think it's weird that Winter's Bone appears to have just been her audition for this role, in a sense. It never struck me until she got cast how similar the characters are (what I mean is, I didn't watch Winter's Bone thinking, "Wow this is just like The Hunger Games!" But once the connection was made, I saw it.)
Like Jon I just care who will play Finnick. I don't know the other guys but Hemsworth will always have the stank of Miley on him
I am totally on board with these choices! Especially Josh as Peeta.
Also, I know they won't start thinking about the 2nd movie yet but Hunter Parrish should absolutely play Finnick.
Now we just have to see how the handle the choices for Hamish, Prim, and Rue.
I'm still thinking that all these people are way. too. old. And too white.
