Hey Hey It's Haymitch?

.

I was really mostly offline for the majority of this past weekend so somehow this bit of news slipped by me until now... um.... what?

"Loaded question: Who plays a paunchy, pathetic drunk better than John C. Reilly? Actually, that’s a bit of a trick, because the answer, of course, is no one. And for that reason, we’re told it will be the Oscar-nominated Reilly who’ll be soon be getting the offer to play Haymitch Abernathy in the forthcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games...

... We’re also told that Reilly had been in talks to join Disney’s Oz, the Great and the Powerful as the sidekick to James Franco’s Wizard character, but that those talks had stalled; now we know why."

Reilly's not what I had pictured in my head for Haymitch really at all, but he's much better than some of the terrifying proposed alternatives, so I need to take a moment to step back and think upon him. But far be it from to wait until I've formulated any opinions before I go and hit post. So y'all tell me what you think, while I go and think myself.

I still think Haymitch needs to be burly/paunchy as described in the books. Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be more appropriate.

Hey, you and I both know who the alternative is ...

Hmmm... John C. Reilly was never on my radar for Haymitch, but I'm kind of warm to the idea. He's the right age. And Reilly can do the humor and the pathos needed for the role.

I know you (and others) were totally against RDJr. but I did think he would've rocked it. Sorry.

I think John is fantastic, but can he pull off the arrogance required for Haymitch? I always pictured him as more of a Russell Crowe type.

Ugh. Does John C. Reilly ever play anyone other than John C. Reilly?
