Today's Mood

.
.
Here's a pick-me-up: Did you know that today is the 32nd anniversary of the partial meltdown at Three Mile Island? I just stumbled across that information randomly but it seemed serendipitous enough to share, what with all the nuclear talk on the news these days due to Japan and then all the mushroom-cloud dreams I had last night that I mentioned earlier today. Silkwood showers for everybody!

What's your favorite cinematic nuclear explosion?

The destructive scenes in THE DAY AFTER suffer a bit from the obvious recycling of footage from US government tests. And I never felt deeply involved with the survivors.

A truly terrifying film with a much different approach is THREADS. That follows the aftermath of an atomic attack in England and delivers on the effects for months and years after. I don't think it's available on DVD in the US.

Marco Beltrami, that is a damn fine Michael Giacchino impersonaltion you're doing (several years earlier) with that T3 score.
