Local Kid Makes Evil

.
We here at MNPP are super happy to hear that Brooklyn-based writer-director J.T. Petty is set to make his next movie. I haven't seen his first movie Soft For Digging yet - although I just now see it's available on Netflix Instant, awesome! - but The Burrowers and S&Man (review) both showed a smart and curious filmmaker willing to play with the horror genre, and we to support those types all we can, so I've been waiting to hear word on what he'd be doing next. He was attached to make that weird Faces of Death reimagining thing but STYD says that's in limbo. Anyway here's the word on the new film via Variety:

"Clifton Collins is set to star in the supernatural pic "Hellbenders" with J.T. Petty on to direct.

The script, also penned by Petty, is about a secret group of elite demonologists in a Brooklyn diocese who battle a terrifying supernatural force that threatens their lives and faith.

The 3D film also stars Clancy Brown and Dan Fogler and goes into production next week.

...The pic is based on a graphic novel written by Petty, who recently sold his spec, "Zombies vs. Robots" to Sony."
