The critical response to The Green Hornet was, let's be kind, mixed. I liked it, but I wasn't on the popular side there. But 1) It's seen as more of a "Seth Rogen film" than it is a Gondry one, and 2) it made plenty of money, so thankfully the movie-making train for Michel is gonna keep on keeping on. And now he's speaking about a new project and it sounds like a perfect fit. Via The Playlist:"The director revealed that he is adapting Philip K. Dick‘s “Ubik” for the big screen. Named by Time magazine as one of the 100 greatest English-language novels of our time, the metaphysical tale follows a man who works at an anti-psi security firm that blocks telepathic spying other sorts of supernatural trickery. When the company is hired to tackle a job on the Moon, things go a bit awry."
They've got a longer synopsis of the book at the link; has anyone read it? I could use some good Dick... to read. Ahem. Anyway he's also set to shoot a smaller film about community film-making with a bunch of Bronx schoolkids this Summer, which was inspired by that Sweding fad that developed out of Be Kind Rewind. I'm sure it's be charming and hipsterish and delicious, but what I wanna know is what happened to this? I want that!

Ubik is my favorite PKD book. I always thought it would make a good miniseries on HBO or something though. I want to hunt down a copy of that vintage paperback you posted, that cover is awesome!
PKD & Gondry DO sound like a match made in quirky, hallucinogenic heaven, so I'm very happy about this news. (Especially as opposed to more "gifted director takes over uninteresting franchise" news.)
My only question: where oh where was I when that Gondry/Clowes/Page time travel project was announced?! That one sentence contains approximately 3 of my favorite last names and 1 of my favorite plot keywords.
But it's probably for the best that I never knew it was happening... since it's almost definitely NOT happening. SIGH.
