I Am Link

.
--- Gimme Woods - Apparently Sony's looking to help MGM shoulder some of its debt in order to get distribution rights for a bunch of their films that've been sitting around, including the Joss Whedon penned Cabin in the Woods which is tormenting me with its dust-gathering. Tormenting!

--- Speaking of Joss, some dude named Kevin Pennington has joined the cast of The Avengers as SHIELD agent Wendell Vaughn, who becomes a somebody at some point (I cannot keep up with comic book mythology anymore). Anyway that's him to the left there. Damn, hello young man.

--- And speaking of things gathering dust, Nat got the heads-up from a reader who saw David O. Russell speak recently and all signs point to ding dong dead for Nailed, his movie with jake Gyllenhaal that's mostly finished but I guess never to be. Dammit.

--- Fran o' Fright - The Coen Bros. are trying to figure out what they're doing next, and in a chat with Empire Ethan said the following:

"We're working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster."

Empire says he seemed to be honest about the first part but kidding about the second half of that statement, which makes me sad. Can you imagine? The fellows who gave her Marge Gunderson giving her a juicy villainess role? Not to mention the wonders I think McDormand could work with an evil role all on her own. Gah why yo gotta mess with my mind, Ehtan Coen? But still, perhaps we'll get a horror movie from them next. I consider Barton Fink a horror film, for the record.

--- Final-Eyes - STYD got a brief update from the screenwriter of Final Destination 5, who just saw a rough cut of the film last week. He says we will love the deaths, including one specific one he's been talking about since getting this gig. We shall see.

--- Jack For Brad - They also chatted with director Brad Anderson, whose Vanishing on 7th Street is out on VOD right now but is supposedly playing in a couple theaters starting this weekend too. I watched it last week but the Pantys got in the way of being able to write anything... I'm still gonna try to do that so I'll hold off for now. Anyway Anderson talks about three projects he's been working on, including his "serial killer with amnesia" flick called Jack that's probably happening next, with Samuel L. Jackson and Liev Schreiber.

He's also working on Concrete Island, a JG Ballard adaption that might reunite him with his Machinist star Christian Bale. Says Anderson:

"The best way to describe it is it's like an urban Robinson Crusoe story - a guy crashes a car into a highway interchange and is marooned in this weedy lot, injured, and can't escape and he's basically trying to survive in the middle of the big urban Metropolis. It's sort of a crazy, cool Ballard-esque type story, but Christian's on board to do that when we can fit it into his schedule, of course."

Apparently Bale would have to lose weight again, which brings me to...

--- This chat with Christian at The Daily Mail where he says he's like to "piss on the shoes" of some critic that wrote about his "trademark" weight fluctuation for roles. Christian Bale, proving himself the most humorless man in the room once more, y'all.

--- Gay For Garrett - Over at PopWrap it's Jarett & Garrett time! Jarett chats with wonderful actor Garrett Dillahunt, who is wonderful. Did I mention wonderful? Wonderful.

--- Mo' Milly - PopWrap also posted the latest trailer for HBO's Mildred Pierce, which I haven't gotten to watch yet but am sure it will be fabulous since hello Kate Winslet directed by Todd Haynes. It's all a given at this point.

--- Words on a Marquee - Read target="new"this conversation with Final Destination director David Ellis last night but didn't get a chance to post on it - he wants to call his next movie, which is about sharks killing people in 3D, Untitled 3D Shark Thriller. He is so nutty. I say that with appreciation. He also gave us Snakes on a Plane after all so he knows from nutty titles.

--- This Is True - Julia Roberts is a witch.

--- And finally, here's another video I haven't watched yet, via Sean here's the trailer for Robin Hardy's sort of a sequel but not really to his own film The Wicker Man, called The Wicker Tree.

I'm gonna be a Ballard geek for a moment and say there is no reason for Bale to go superskinny for this role. The underlying irony or tragedy of the book is that the guy isn't stuck in the median for very long, but still goes a bit crazy.

Nonetheless, sign me up.
