See To Cloud For Me

.
Let's toss a bunch of names into a giant rumor stew and see what we come up with! Natalie Portman says that the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer are planning on co-directing an adaptation of David Mitchell's apparently well-liked 2004 book Cloud Atlas, and it may co-star herself, Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, James McAvoy and Ian McKellen. So my question to you is...
.

.
To those of you who have read the book, any more you can offer in the comments would be as always terrifically appreciated. It's not like I can make up my mind for myself. Do you want me to die?

One of my favorite books of all time. Each time I read it I find something new to love. 2 of this other books are also great: Black Swan Green & The Thousand Autumns...(I think you would really love the 2nd one if you can get through the rough going of the first 50 pages or so).

I would say don't bother.

I looooved David Mitchell's previous novel Number9dream and I remember being so excited when this was coming out that I actually went out and bought the hardback (which was a massive extravagance for me). I was underwhelmed; I thought it was ok but my expectations were way too high- it is a gorgeous looking book though.

If the film gets made, I would prefer to see it with a clean slate. It's going to be a difficult movie to get right and I think it would be better just to view it as it's own thing because I don't think a straightforward adaptation would be that great.

I say yes!!

It's a fantastic book, one of my favourites!
Each part of the story is different (it's several seperate yet interconnected stories) so there's a lot to enjoy - each 'vignette' is a different type/kind of writing (historical, epistolary writing, detective novel, futuristic etc.) and all blended together wonderfully!!

Haven't read it, but I'll concur that his Black Swan Green and Number9dream are both excellent.
