Spirit of the Beehive. And in a very strange bit of coincidence, I'm showing the movie this very moment in my Spanish class....

Seriously? That's awesome! I feel like I should go to the window and sing "Somewhere Out There" from An American Tale. Only in Spanish or something. Anyway yes you are correct of course.

Also can I ask, so you're a teacher then? Because I just ADORE the thought of a teacher looking at this here site while showing a movie to his class. Giddy-making, it is.

I´m surprised that you know this movie. Is it famous in the US? Anyway, one of the best movies in the history of Spanish cinema without a doubt!

PS: I´m also a teacher that, instead of working, is on your website. Bizarre!!!

I think it's relatively well known by cinema buffs here, HenryK. My mother wouldn't have a clue what it is - I use her as my gauge of what the average American movie-watcher knows - but I think Guillermo Del Toro's talked about it enough for it to gain some geek cred here.

@JA: Yes, I'm a Spanish teacher. Just finished a unit on the Spanish Civil War, and I was showing the first few scenes so the class good get a mental picture of post-war Spain.

@ HenryK: Like JA said, among cinephiles, "El espíritu de la colmena" is rather well known. (Not as well as it should be, of course, hence my subversive plan to implant it into the minds of the impressionable youth!)

Is this the teachers' lounge? I teach Algebra. :-)

My kids are taking a test today.

@Matt Well done! I love your subversive plan

@JA One question, have you seen "Arrebato"? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078797/). I remember that you loved "In a glass cage" and this one is even better: a movie about how the cinema is a drug that vampirizes the viewer... literally! I think that you´ll enjoy that movie a lot.

I haven't seen that film, HenryK, but it def. sounds right up my alley. I'll see if I can find it. Thanks for the rec!

Did you see Alejandro Amenabar's "Tesis"? It stars Ana Torrent, the little girl from this movie, as a college student investigating a snuff film. It's very good, and Eduardo Noriega would be a good subject for a gratuitous post.
