Laid To Rest (2008)

Firstly, yuck. For some reason this movie's twice randomly come up in different conversations this week. I saw it about a year or so ago and really I don't remember a whole lot about it. I remember this scene seen above, because seeing Jonathan Schaech get his face carved off isn't something you easily forget. No siree bub. And I remember Lena Headey showing up to have some quick fun.


Less thrillingly I also remember a lot of driving back and forth between a couple of locations, over and over and over again, with the screenwriter working overtime to constantly excuse why these characters kept driving back and forth to the same locations and didn't just haul ass outta there leaving the killer behind. One of the hazards of low-budget film-making is only having a couple locations to use, I get that, but it felt a little overboard here. Maybe it was the fact that it became an actual part of the story that it called attention to itself so much? I dunno. It's just what I remember.

Also - and my boyfriend was making this point the other day when we were watching Maniac Cop but I forgot to mention it when I talked about that movie - is anyone else sick to death of giant hulking ten foot tall killers in these movies? Giant mentally-handicapped mute walls of muscle and flesh. There's too many of them looking the same.


Those gripes aside the movie's not half bad as far as not really serious slasher movies from the past few years go. It's well shot and told in an entertainingly off-skew manner that keeps you on your toes, mostly. But... well, I don't really have a whole lot to say about it - I'm just exorcising it outta my system since it's come up twice this week and I never got around to properly hugging a scene of Jonathan Schaech's face getting carved off. So consider that hugged.
