"Warners going on a thrillride with 'Gravity' co-writer.
His “Gravity” script might be having trouble achieving orbit, but Jonas Cuaron’s relationship with Warner Bros. is soaring.
The studio has picked up an untitled pitch from the scribe, with Hollywood Gang attached to produce. Logline details are being sequestered, but the project is a gritty thriller set in Mexico City.
Gianni Nunnari is producing; Craig Flores will executive produce.
Warners senior vp production Jon Berg originated the idea and is overseeing.
Cuaron co-wrote “Gravity” with his father, director Alfonso Cuaron. It initially was set up at Universal as an Angelina Jolie vehicle but then migrated to Warners, where it eventually lost Jolie. A round of testing new actresses began, as well as a re-engagement with Jolie, which was for naught.
The upshot is that the studio is in active negotiations with Natalie Portman, who has shot to the top of the most-wanted actress list off the heat generated from her performance in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.”
