Why Not Heather Langencamp Then?

.
Rooney Mara has been cast as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie. She played Nancy in the recent and semi-reviled A Nightmare on Elm Street re-do. Looking back at my review of that Platinum Dunes remake, which I was surprisingly kinder to than most, I said this about her:

"I found Rooney Mara serviceable enough, although I wish she could've gotten more of a character arc (not that that's her fault). Even though nobody's ever gonna hand Heather Langencamp any Best Actress statues she at least had a rounded-out girl to play with her Nancy, one that we watched change pretty dramatically as the film rolled along. 2010's Nancy doesn't change enough to fully register as someone we should invest in, and I do blame the majority of that on the structure of the screenplay, with the focus being on several other characters for the first 30-40 minutes of the film. But I was rooting for this Nancy by the end all the same. I think the scene with the discovery of the Polaroids did it, and yeah, that's some possibly questionable manipulation going on, but I really thought it worked all the same."

So I blame it more on the script than I do her, but in the three months since this movie came out - has it really been just three months? It feels like an eternity - not a speck or trace of an impression with regards to Mara lingers.

Whereas I could recite with every spat inflection half of Heather Langencamp's deliveries in the original Elm Street (FUCK your hall pass!).

So I'm just putting it out there, David Fincher.
Maybe you hired the wrong Nancy.

I've only seen this chick in Youth in Revolt, where she was perfectly okay. So there's that.

(was I the only one still kind of rooting for Carey Mulligan?)
