I Am Link

There are actually a crazy amount of stories worth commenting on or links worth throwing out here this morning, so let's dive right in. (Crazy!)

--- Cream of Darkness - In honor of Bruce Campbell's birthday yesterday SyFy went and designed these truly delightful soup can labels for him that you can print off and actually put on cans of soup, like a giant dork, hooray!

--- The Lack - I haven't read the Lethem book on which this film will be based but it certainly sounds interesting - David Cronenberg is attaching himself to like the 50th project this year, an adaptation of As She Climbed Across the Table, which is about a man who's wife, a scientist, opens up a door to nothingness and then climbs right on through to the other side. Of course her name is Alice.

--- My What Big Teeth You Have - So far the promotional materials for Piranha 3D have been leaving me wanting - except the trailer; looove the trailer which promises all I want from a 3D killer fish movie, and more! - so I'm happy with this new teaser poster (via), which is going the distance if by distance I mean shoving a bunch of fish fangs in my face and what else could I possibly mean by distance anyway?

--- Mo' Fish - Speaking of P3D, a new batch of pictures showed up online yesterday, including shots of Elisabeth Shue (yay) and Ving Rhames using a boat motor as a weapon (double yay) and Eli Roth being slimy (yay?) and my bobble-headed beloved Adam Scott (yay for sure) and then there's this fellow, the very pretty Cody Longo Steven R. McQueen:

I'll have to remember to give him some MNPP grautious appreciations soon, I will...

--- Hex Is A Curse - I'm gonna get around to writing up my thoughts on Jonah Hex shortly but you should check out a couple of pieces at Cinematical dealing with the film's box office failure - first off, a list of things Megan Fox should try to do next to rescue her seemingly flailing career. Funny how nobody seems to be aiming nay venom for its failure at its star Josh Brolin, eh? Even though Megan's got like 10 minutes of screen-time, it's her fault somehow.

And secondly, here's an interesting take by someone that knows the Hex source material really well and visited the set of the film on what he thinks went wrong.

--- Die Die My Diablo - If you appreciated big chunks of Jennifer's Body, like I did, then you need to read this transcript of a chat that Diablo Cody gave earlier this week about the film. It brings some interesting stuff to light, and Cody's her usual funny and forthcoming self, generous with admissions of the limitations of the finished project. Still like her I think the film's underrated. Although I wouldn't go too far with that. It ain't perfect, but it is curious. (via Nat)

--- Woodsboro High - According to STYD there will be a flashback sequence in Scream 4 set at Sidney and the gang's high school. I'm almost starting to think I need to start not clicking on links with news on this film now, lest I really ruin the fun they've hopefully got in store.

--- Speaking of Scream - Glenn announced an awesome project he's starting up at Stale Popcorn - he's going to go through the entire Scream trilogy (as it stands so far) and between now and the time when Part 4 comes out do a post for every single scene in order. Glenn knows from Scream, y'all. And you can read the very first entry here, on the Drew Barrymore opener that started it all. Awesome awesomeness.

--- Take The Good, Take The Bad - The good news? The rumor mill is spewing out word that Nathan Fillion might play Hank Pym, aka Ant Man, in Joss Whedon's The Avengers. This would make sense, as Joss has a total boner for Nathan - who doesn't? - and crams him into everything he makes these days. And if Edgar Wright ever gets to make his Ant Man movie, then it would in part have Fillion in it - Pym is the elder Ant Man, with a younger dude in the wings - and an Edgar Wright movie with at least some Fillion in it sets my geek to sparking. But the bad news is that the rumor also consists of Evan Longoria playing his wife, and god that woman's insufferably shrill.

--- Got Babe - The director of the misshapen Zombieland has snapped up Mike White's script called Babe in the Woods to direct. You might recall that Mike White died a toilet-centric death in Zombieland. Anyway I did a post on this script back when the studio bought it - it's a comedy about a gal who gets hunted by the mafia upon arriving at Yale. Yay for all the female centered comedies on the horizon! And I maintain even script-unread that Aubrey Plaza ought to get the lead. I'd love to see her shake up her static screen presence with some nuttiness.

--- Or Her - Or Kirsten Bell could get the role. I wouldn't mind that a bit. She's just signed on for third banana in a film called Whales, with Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski, about... well, whales.

--- Pretty Bird Boy - Tom Ford's obsession with Nicholas Hoult continues, thankfully, and that Birds-esque advertisement is the proof. Like it muchly.

--- Post Potter - Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to star in a remake of the Oscar winning All Quiet on the Western Front. I have never seen the original. I should fix that, right?

--- Freak Show - I was just talking about this movie the other day! Coincidence much? Watching that clown movie made me think about it. STYD chatted with Tobe Hooper about The Funhouse, which celebrates its 30th anniversary... uh, next year. Not sure why now. But they did, and it's a terrifically weird little unheralded gem that should get more love, so I welcome the interview.

I'm, like, 98% sure that those P3D pics are of Steven R. McQueen, not Cody Longo.

Make that 99.978%.

I think you're 100% right, Melissa. Fixed it. I couldn't figure out who was playing who and rolled the dice... FAIL. ;-)

JA, you said that Nathan Fillion's wife in Ant-Man will be the baseball player, Evan Longoria, instead of Eva Longoria.

Wishful thinking, JA?

Ha I totally did! Good catch, Branden. And I'm leaving that mistake, it conjures up much nicer thoughts than the truth.
