I'm probably not seeing the new Nightmare on Elm Street myself until sometime on Sunday but, now that's it's in theaters and any ol' maniac off the street can wander in and see it for themselves, all y'all maniacs who do wander in and see it should tell me what you thought of it here in the comments. I'm curious, since I'm seeing reactions all over the map on it (although the more I hear the more it seems to be trending towards crapola). So spout off, you!

The original had a lot of unnerving and sometimes bizarre imagery that really helped sear it into memory, and it's all polished up and bland on this get go. There's a few tense moments, but it's pretty much what you'd expect: a by the numbers remake created with the sole motivation of making cash and not a whole lot else.
Kyle Gallner is cute though.
Beautifully lit, but boring as hell, the new NOES can't hold a candle to the original. the Dali-esque visions of Craven's original (while technically inferior) are woefully lame in CGI. And Haley simply channeling Rorschach as Freddy. Yawn.
it was OKAY.... I was pretty terrified at some parts but I never saw the original (I know!). I thought JEH was really good.

Well, just left the theater thinking "what was the point?" This movie caould have been so buch better than it was. I'm just so disapointed. It was so by the numbers and just...lame. I did like the backstory of Freddy and there were a couple interesting scenes, but as a whole it was just unenjoyable. I also DID NOT like how the story was presented. It focuses on one character at a time and then quickly kills them off amd then shifts to another character. I found Katie Cassidys character but being the beautiful blonde in a horror movie is never good. Skip it.
okay. so i think i'm probably the only one. but i loved it. and this is coming from someone who loves all the nightmare movies to death. i actually think they came up with a freddy that just makes a lot more sense than craven's freddy. the problems with the film are the actors. true, everyone is painfully underwritten and completely disposable, which is a huge change from the original. i mean, nancy is just a buzzkill in this. everyone is two dimensional. but in a sense, i can buy into it. these are all victims of sexual abuse. abuse that their parents wanted them to forget. in that sense, i think the parents are represented pretty well, too. they all seem to be single parents. they all seem to be slightly damaged. i'm not really thinking about what i'm saying because i'm still trying to process the whole film. i really do think it's pretty great. is it a classic? no. is it anywhere near the greatness of the original? no. but i think with some better writers that can flesh out the teens a little better, this franchise could become seriously great.
also, kyle gallner. kyle gallner. kyle gallner. in a speedo. i kept getting nightmare on elm street 2 flashbacks. not because there were speedos in it, just because i was hoping kyle gallner would get hit with balls and towel snapped in the shower.
speaking of which, i seriously hope they do a remake of the actual sequel. i'd love to see how that could even happen. especially if kyle gallner plays jesse. and they can get grace or mamie gummer to play meryl streep look-a-like lisa.
i also wish someone can explain how the friday the 13th remake has a 25% on rottentomatoes and this nightmare remake has only 15%. that is seriously fucked.
i wrote way too much.
I agree with Michael Seth on so many points --
1) love the original movies and really enjoyed this one;
2) totally confused as to how that F13 sequel could have a better rating;
3) Lisa really did look like Meryl Streep, and, as a kid, I thought she was being played by Meryl Streep -- this caused confusion later in life;
4) KG is way cuter than I thought, and seeing him in that speedo alone was worth the price of admission!
