This talk flared up awhile back when it was said that James McAvoy - happy 31st birthday, James! - was in the lead to take on the role of Kurt Cobain in a bio-pic; now it's dear ol' Courtney Love herself fanning the flames again, telling us she thinks Mr. McAvoy or Ryan Gosling would make the right choice. She's got good taste... well at least where her actor picks are concerned.
It didn't strike me until I looked at them side by side how perfect a pick McAvoy is - if you picture him with the long bleached hair and the grunge costume he's really practically a doppelganger. Gosling's a little less spot-on physically speaking but he's a great actor and also a musician (sidenote: anybody like Gosling's band Dead Man's Bones? I may be a little biased since the half of the group not named Ryan Gosling hails from my hometown of Rochester, New York, but I kinda dig them).

Michael Pitt has essentially already played Cobain in Gus Van Sant's "Last Days".
Also, I hate Michael Pitt, so we MUST take that into consideration. ;-)
If it's Michael Pitt, we'll forever have complicated feelings towards the movie...we love the music, but we despise the face. It'll give the film an unwarranted layer of depth. Genius.
