This is screenwriter David Self talking, via STYD:"I’m still involved with [Robocop] and Darren Aronofsky’s still involved with it... He’s making another movie right now (Black Swan), but we’re waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it’s a situation where we have to be practical. We're waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon."
When asked if they were approaching the new Robocop as an unofficial sequel or a remake, Self explained, "It’s definitely not a sequel. It’s an origin story, it’s an origin to the original Robocop. So, it’s basically a 'reboot'."

It's not like I don't like Aronofsky's work, I like it very much. But for me, Robocop is the greatest film of the 80's. I began quoting it the minute I left the theater and I've never stopped. I wouldn't change a single frame of that movie. I wouldn't even watch the sequels lest they mar my love of the first film. I just can't see anybody making Robocop any better than it is.
