The Panty for "The worst movie..."

"... that I saw this year that I didn't mention
in my 'Worst Movies of the Year' post
for various reasons" goes to:

The Box (d. Richard Kelly)
- my original review

Yes, Richard "Darko" Kelly's name there is part of the "various reasons" why I didn't hate extra on the movie, even though it disappointed me as much as, more than, some of the movies I did name. No, The Box got trounced by critics and audiences alike pretty soundly and not entirely unfairly, but then it felt like the criticisms turned a corner at some point and became mean-spirited for mean spirit's sake. The worst movie ever made? Really? Not by a long shot. I'm not gonna pile on Kelly like that (piling on him in another manner, well that's another story). It's attractively filmed and has a few eerie moments and James Marsden is in it and staring at him's always a big plus (I will also pile on him, in that other manner, if possible). But, I mean, at no point does Tom Green hump a dead moose. That's gotta be worth something, right?

In all seriousness the film does not work, but Dick's always an interesting director even when things tend to... get away from him. As they... tend to do. And I do hope he works again soon. And maybe... let's someone else write the script. And edit. But he can totally do the other junk!
