I Am Link

.
--- Save Penny - I almost popped in last night when I saw this news just to yell that we need to band together and rescue Penelope Cruz from her newly announced next collaborator, that being Lars Von Trier, aka actress mangler extraordinaire, but then I thought better of it. Penny survived dating Tom Cruise after all. But Von Trier taking on the end of the world? Mkay.

--- Mission Four - And speaking of her ladyship, Miss Cruise will be starring in a fourth Mission Impossible film. I guess that's what you do when you have no idea what to do. JJ Abrams is only producing, not directing, it seems.

--- First Star I See Tonight - Over at Low Resolution Joe posted an appreciation of the beauty of Jane Campion's Bright Star, along with a swell assortment of images from the film. So pretty.

--- Bees - The only thing that I find scary about the title Sunflower is the thought of bees. It's why I actually can't stand flowers - they make me think of bees. What the fuck am I talking about? Oh right - Wes Craven is probably going to direct a horror film called Sunflower and that to me seems an odd name for a horror film, no? Unless there are bees. No idea where this fits with all the Scream 4 rumors though.

--- Bad Devil - Arbogast posted a take-down of Ti West's The House of the Devil that's worth reading. As y'all know I found the film delightful but certainly, it's not perfect - I liked the world and the characters so much that if West has stuck the landing it definitely would've made it higher than #4 on my Best 2009 Horror Movies list). I think how endearing I found the characters themselves to be, specifically the main two girls, is the difference between my understanding of the film and Arbo's. Cuz if all you're getting from the film is an appreciation of the perfectly rendered early 80s shtick then no, that is not enough.

--- New Kinda Boo - The director of the 2nd and 4th Final Destination films, David R. Ellis, is going to direct a movie called Bad Luck, where the killer isn't Death but rather Superstition; in other words, people will be killed for walking under a ladder or breaking a mirror or some shit. Basically it's Urban Legend, but with no psychotic Noxzema girl. Okay? Okay.

--- Winnin' Women - Nat's made his way to the Actresses in his Film Bitch nominations, and naturally there's good love spread around to the worthiest of women-folk. Tilda for the win!

--- Capturing Cate - That girl-assassin movie called Hanna starring Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana that I posted about before now has an adult female in the cast, a lady named Blanchett, Cate is yo nasty. And she's nasty! In the best sense of the word. What? I don't know. It's early, cut me some slack.

--- Imminent Muppet - I'm so happy a new Muppet Movie will be coming to a theater near us all soon, and Slash has got some info on Jason Segel's script. Sounds like classic Muppety stuff.

--- Speaking Beaker - And speaking of those lil' felt creatures, check out a new Muppet viral video over at Electronic Cerebrectomy. Starring my second favorite muppet, Beaker!

--- And finally, Rich at FourFour recently posted a video compiling the "Mirror Scare" moments in a bunch of movies - you know, that moment when someone pops up behind somebody in a mirror unexpectedly and everybody jumps - and now he's posted a follow-up video of moments that he missed the first time around. This is why he's awesome. Here are both videos:

What is your favorite Muppet, then?

Kermit of course! I could really go overboard waxing rhapsodical on the frog so I'll rein myself in here but I basically believe that Kermit is the most perfect realization of what I want to be as a human being. He is good, and loyal, and honest, and true, and I adore him. ADORE. He'd be in my top 5 favorite fictional creations of all time. (And yes, that's me reining myself in.)

This isn't related to the post, sorry, but what did you think of Black Water? I want to see that, but my local rental place's copy has been out whenever I'm there. Hopefully it won't crash and burn like Rogue's third act.
