Quotes of the Day

,
Movieline has got a nice big chat with the director (and MNPP hero) Michael Haneke up, and it's one of the better ones I've read. Haneke's always evasive when asked to explain anything about his films or his ideas therein, so a big hefty chunk of this interview is just discussing why that is, and I, Haneke-geek that I am, found it a treat. Choice bit:

Movieline: You once introduced your film to a festival audience by saying, “I wish you a disturbing evening.”

Haneke: Yes. I always say this.

Movieline: How much do you enjoy being a provocateur?

Haneke: That’s not me being the provocateur. That’s not what it’s about for me. It’s always when you put your finger on a wound that it hurts. So what I’m aiming for is that I put my finger exactly on that point.

Nope, nothing "provocative" about pushing a finger onto someone's sore wound there, Michael. Nothing at all. (I say this with adoration, of course.)

And also, he gives a tiny little speck of info on what's coming up next for him:

Movieline: I read your next project is something about the Internet.

Haneke: That’s the one after the next one. The next project is a film about very old age people, and the humiliation from outside society when your body begins to fall apart. Our future.
.
And don't forget, his new film The White Ribbon is out here in the US on December 30th. Yeah, New Years Eve Eve. Genius planning on that one. Argh. Here's my review. (thanks Dan)
