Quote of the Day

.

"It’s incredible — I’m 60, and I’m playing the romantic lead in romantic comedies! Bette Davis is rolling over in her grave. She was 42 when she did All About Eve, and she was 54 when she did What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?." - Meryl Streep in Vanity Fair (via)

Oh just you wait, Meryl. Bette's in a dark corner of heaven waiting for you with a sack and a shiv with your name on it. You'd better regain your River Wild toughness, lady, before you shuffle off. No more flouncing around in ABBA-ready overalls for you! I say you use your mature-lady prestige and relaunch the Hag Horror genre for another generation. Fuck Nancy Meyers! Slap on the grease-paint and get wacky!

I find it funny that Miss Streep is stil working steady at 60, most actresses over 40 say they can't find good scripts, and women like Bette Davis in their day didn't look the way women over 50 look today, they take better care of themselves these days. It's Complicated does look really good.

BETTE DAVIS WAS ONLY 54 IN BABY JANE??!

Sorry, that required all caps. I just...assumed she was a bit longer than that.

Then again, she was still making movies for about 10 years after she died, so...

Meryl Streep in a remake of "Lady in a Cage". Make it happen, Hollywood!

On second thought, give that one to Jessica Walter. She'd be great.

It my one hope and dream for Meryl Streep that she makes a horror picture. Just picture her in something along the lines of The Others or even Gaslight and it would be heaven. Some sort of period-set fright movie is just what Meryl needs, not romantic comedies with Alec Baldwin.
