"Look down there. It's easy, isn't it?"

..
"Why don't you? Why don't you?
Go on. Go on. Don't be afraid..."

Hmm, it didn't occur to me that using these lines from Rebecca as part of my birthday wish to Joan Fontaine - she's 92 today! - would come off so creepy until I saw it here in the post, the two intentions brushing up against each other.

There's Mrs. Danvers whispering her insidious suicide plea, and then there's me remarking upon her making it all the way to 92... I do not wish you to slip into the great beyond, my lady! Please stay with us for much much longer! She's one of the few remaining classic stars after all - and one of the golden leading ladies who worked with Alfred Hitchcock multiple times (here in Rebecca and then again one year later in Suspicion) - and it will be a very very sad day when she's gone. So happy 92, Joan! Here's to 92 more!

"Listen. Listen to the sea."

Dammit, Mrs. Danvers! Quit that!
