I Am Link

.
--- Gettin' Hitch'd - I was going to post this video over here, mostly for myself, so I remembered to watch it, but then I saw it was in six parts and laziness won out. Too bad!

But if you head over to Slash/Film they've posted a six-part interview from 1973 with Alfred Hitchcock that I cannot wait to watch. He's always such a joy to behold.

--- Drag Hell - Wow. Wow. Wow. Oh my god this sounds so completely terrible. Via Cinematical:

"Variety reports that [Ryan Reynolds] is attached to star in an untitled "dude in drag" romantic comedy for Working Title. Allan Loeb is currently penning the script.

Reynolds plays a man who gets dumped, presumably through some fault of his own because he decides that the way to win her back is to befriend her. But naturally, he can't just call her up and say "Can we still be friends? I need you in my life." Instead, he decides to cross-dress as a woman, and become her best girlfriend."

Because women are so effin' stupid they could never tell that their new best friend is their old boyfriend wearing a wig and lipstick. WTF? I don't care how far they go with the make-up, a la Mrs. Doubtfire. Come on. Gah. Come on, Ryan. That hot ass of yours is only gonna get you so far. Granted, that is very far. Very. Anywhere you want, Ryan Reynolds. Anywhere. But still, it'd be nice if he tried to make a good movie now and then, ya know? Maybe?

--- Believe It Or Not - Captain Tightpants wants to don some form-fitting red tights - Nathan Fillion says his dream project would be an update of the TV series The Greatest American Hero. Mkay. Keep the dream alive, Captain Hammer.

--- If A Tree Falls - Not surprising but I was still hoping it'd not be the case and Terry'd get it out with much haste, but Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life with Brad Pitt has been pushed to next year. I want!

--- And finally, io9 runs down the ways you can tell you're watching a low-budget independent horror film in honor of Paranormal Activity. Doesn't everyone just love how PA's success has opened up the "Blair Witch sucks!" hate-fest again? And here I thought that tired parade had run out of steam and we were coming around to recognizing it's a great fucking horror film. Silly me. Guess I'll wait for the 20th Anniversary then.

If they inhabit the same universe as Lois Lane? It's a possibility. But if it is set in "our" universe? Frickin' improbable.

As a non-Blair Witch fan (though I loved the TV special Curse of the Blaire Witch-and Bought the BW DVD just to have it) I confess, the train never gets old. For me it was just lacked punch until the last couple minutes, and that could not save the film for me.

Still curious about Paranormal Activity, because I like a good ghost story. I don't dislike the formula, but I prefer [REC]/Quarantine to BW.

Man, what's with the indie-horror bashing from io9? It's not like we're getting good or intelligent horror movies from the bigger budget mainstream stuff. They can take their shitty remakes and Saw sequels - I'll stick with The Descent, Ginger Snaps, 28 Days Later, ect.

On the other hand, bear in mind that all those lame made for Sy Fy films are indie movies. Most low budget indie horror is *not* the Descent, Gingersnaps or 28 Days later. Or Session 9. Hell, most of it is not Deadgirl. Indie horror has no better a track record than the studios. Both turn out a ton of crap and a few jems. And by sheer volume? Indie has turned out a whole lot more crap than gems.

Good point, Thomwade, although I maintain we're getting more good indie horror than we are good mainstream horror - even if it's just because there are many more indie horrors getting made than there are mainstream ones.
