Ten Frames From Love is the Devil

.
I've had John Maybury's 1998 film on my mind a lot this Summer as there's been a Francis Bacon show over at MoMA here in NYC that I've gone to... five times now? I think that's right. See, Bacon's my favorite painter and I've basically been living in this damn city just waiting for a show of his work to open already, so while it lasts I'm gonna take advantage. Anyway each time I've gone to the show I've looked at the grimace of Bacon's lover George Dyer, well, grimacing back at me and I can't help it each time but to contemplate anew the fact that his movie counterpart was performed by an oft-naked Daniel Craig. Because who doesn't want to contemplate an oft-naked Daniel Craig? But besides that perk of the film's existence, I also think Maybury did a smashingly fine job presenting us with visuals right out of Bacon's work... without actually having the rights to show any of Bacon's work. Aye there's the rub. So let's give praise where praise is due with some random visual appreciation.
