Kate Meet Joan

.
There were several bits of news and junk that popped up on Thursday and Friday of last week when I was mostly away from posting that were like slaps across the face to my relaxed state. There was that White Ribbon trailer which yanked me out of my slumber; there was that Bryan Singer rebooting Battlestar Galactica news that I still haven't really wrapped my brain around; and there was this news, brought to my attention by Nathaniel at The Film Experience, that... just wowza!

"Kate Winslet, who we all thought would lie low for a bit after her Oscar win, is going to play "Mildred Pierce". Yes that Mildred Pierce!"

And not just any ol' hack's remake of Milly Pierce, but she's playing Milly for Todd effin' Haynes! A miniseries for HBO, it is, and my mind might never recover from this news. It's more Kate and Todd working together that's got me excited than it is any huge attachment to the material; I've never read the book on which the film was based, and which the miniseries is supposed to follow more closely than that original film - should I read the book? - and honestly, it's been awhile since I have seen the film so perhaps I should watch it again before saying but it's not a film that's held on to any prized part of my affections. I remember liking it just fine. Somebody's gonna bitch-slap me for that and tell me to see it again, right?

But Kate and Todd! Todd and Kate! And the fact that Kate's got something lined up; I feared she'd stay away for another year or so. Obviously it'll be awhile before this series is airing of course. But just to know it's there. It's delight itself.

Are you sure this is true? It sounds too good to be true, but I hope it is.
