Why Can't I Seem To Care About Public Enemies?

.

This always happens with Michael Mann's movies. I can't ever seem to stir up much personal interest beforehand. Then I see them and usually end up liking them and wonder afterward why I couldn't seem to care beforehand. Rinse and repeat.

But here... Bale! Depp! Cotillard! Tatum! Crudup! Wenham! That's a cast I ought to find very agreeable, no? But yeah. No. Enthusiasm at zero.

Can somebody make me care?
Or do we not care?

I completely agree. I have no urge to see this movie, nor any feelings about it. So you're not alone in "not caring."

I usually don't care about Michael Mann movies, but this one excites me. I think it's the 1930s gangster-chic feeling it gives off. It gives off vibes of The Public Enemy or something like that. It's probably nothing like that, of course.

For me, it's Bale and Cotillard. Enthusiasm sucked away. I'll watch for Crudup's performance, which even from .4 second in a trailer seems like it might be campy goodness (I'm thinking/hoping Jim Broadbent in "Gangs of New York" style).

I know I'll see it, but yeah, I'm pretty ambivalent. I blame the HD.

Though from the stills it looks like allot of makeup for men, but the Crudup and the Bale will always pull me in

Slick, Hollywood trash - everyone just wanted the paychecks.

It's not "Yay" or "Nay" but a big "Meh". A cast like this being so overdressed seems like a big waste to me. Had the movie been set in a beach or a nudist colony it would be a completely different story.
