--- Sam He Am -
Via here comes our first official look at Sam Worthington in the
Clash of the Titans remake (seen there to the right). I preferred being able to
see up his skirt a little bit, but whatever.
Coming out of
Terminator Salvation I might not have been happy with much of anything but the one thing I did truly enjoy was getting to stare at Mr. Worthington for two hours, so he's still on my good side.
--- Giles the Ripper - I made it about half an hour into
Repo: The Genetic Opera before having to give up (that thing is an unbearable piece of shit, but I'll probably try to finish it at some point), but it did remind me of Anthony Stewart Head's proposed
Buffy spin-off
Ripper and wonder whatever might've come of that (besides the obvious answer of "nada, you dim-bulb"). So it's with interest that I hear
Head speak on it again after years of silence and express a hope that it will happen maybe someday. I'd like that too!
--- Ryan's Hope - Ryan Reynolds is
still plugging away at his
X-Men spin-off for
Deadpool... I'll watch Ryan in anything of course (although I still ain't seen
Wolverine, fancy that) but I do wonder if this will really get off the ground. Even with
Wolverine having exposed the world to the character somewhat, is name recognition on the character enough to warranty the film? I dunno. But then again, what the fuck do I know? Exactly.
--- That's Lohman - I'm only linking to
this article at Cinematical because it annoys me - it's calling out Alison Lohman's
Drag Me To Hell character's
not being Ash With Boobs as a bad thing. Because apparently that's what Sam Raimi was supposed to make. Nevermind that I found Christine to be a fascinatingly flawed character that is constantly undermining our sympathies with her selfishness. But not really, because we'd do the same damned thing in her predicament! And then, when she does finally fight and do the right thing... well, I don't wanna get into spoilers, but let's just say it doesn't go quite right for her. Anyway, that article is wrong-headed.

Blasphemer! Repo is genius! ;o)
I actually saw "Repo!" in a real live movie theater and, too, was ready to walk out at about the 30-minute mark.
But then I started looking at the thing as a real, true opera (an art form I usually abhor), with all the over-acting, vocal histrionics, and slow-moving plot on par for that particular genre, and started enjoying the visuals a lot more.
It's still a big, dumb, loud, lumbering beast of a movie. But it shore is fun to look at.
Plus, I just kind of admire the chutzpah of somebody making an opera about repossessing body parts.
Maybe I should've seen it on a big screen, because on my TV it looked like a muddy bunch of vomit that was screaming in my face. ;-)
I just think Darren Lynn Bousman is a terrible, sloppy director and I don't think I'm ever gonna get past that.
I agree about Bousman's directing--the damned thing could easily have had about a half hour lopped off it and been a tight little flick.
Well, Repo's definitely no S. Darko, but what I really want to address:
Can a Deadpool movie sell nearly as well as Wolverine? Deadpool's only had something like 4 canceled comic series by now so we know the fan base just loves the character so much they'll throw droves of money and success that way.
Otherwise they'll have to bank purely on the sexyness of Reynolds (I'll be there), and we know how well that did for Garner in Elektra. . .
