I Am Link

.
--- Basterds Been Seen - Inglourious Basterds screened at Cannes and Slash/Film rounded up some of the early opinions. They're all over the map. Here's where I admit that I always tend to find the buzz coming out of Cannes to be bullshit, positive or negative. But anyway a lot of people seem to be calling Basterds QT's best since Jackie Brown (all this belated love for it; I've been crowing about its genius since it came out!) or even Pulp Fiction.

--- American Thirst - Ugh, there's already talk brewing of a remake of Park Chan-wook's Thirst and the thing's not out here for months. Hopefully this will go the way of that Oldboy remake or any of the other remakes of his flicks that keep being talked about and not happening. There is no reason! People can fucking read the subtitles or just go to heck! God.

--- Opposite Christ - Todd at Twitch saw and reviewed Antichrist, but I found this tidbit especially worth carrying over here (slightly spoilery):

"Why the boos and walk outs at some screenings here in Cannes? Here are two clues lifted from the film credits: Charlotte Gainsbourgh is at one point replaced by a body double named Mandy Starship while the film’s production team also employed - and I quote - a “misogyny researcher”."

--- Vertiginous Sensation - Also via Twitch comes the trailer for the French "Cliffhanger meets Wrong Turn" flick Vertige, where a mountain climbing expedition goes terribly awry. Sounds fun!

--- Mom Junior - The terrific Melissa Leo is going to play Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale's mother in David O. Russell's next film, The Fighter. That means she started having them when she was 10 years old! Slut!

--- Squeakuel Is Now A Word - Anna Faris is going to be voicing one of the computer-animated Chippettes in the "squeakuel" to the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Sigh. Girl's gettin' paid.

--- Who Ya Gonna Call - More talk from Dan Aykroyd about the third Ghostbusters flick - he thinks there will be two female Ghostbusters (and names Eliza Dushku as his choice!) and that Harold Ramis might direct the film instead of the rumored Judd Apatow! I think Dan Akyroyd might be talking out of his ass these days, but we'll see.

--- Liquid Metal - Nat took an in-depth look back at James Cameron's Terminator 2; meanwhile my bud Sean reviews Terminator Salvation.

---And finally, y'all need to go and watch and then vote for Final Girl Stacie Ponder's short film called Deadly Dress 4: Never A Bride over at Funny Or Die! Do it! Now now now!

And then go and read Stacie's review of Megashark Vs. Giant Octopus. It's the best way you could spend your morning, believe you me; I almost busted a blood vessel in my eyeballs from laughing. I think my neighbors might have called the police.
