--- Mo Mo' - Glenn's enthusiasm at Stale Popcorn for all things Mo'Nique & Oscar related fills me with glee because I got a fever for that flavor as well. Here's where I shamefully admit that I teared up watching the trailer for Precious. Well I did! Damn it.

--- Happy Haneke - The rights for Michael Haneke's current Cannes starrer The White Ribbon have been snatched up by Sony; no word yet on a release date of course, but hopefully it'll be before the end of the year. I can't imagine it not being, especially if it's well received at Cannes. Also, Cinematical writer Jenni Miller, you're annoying. Haneke films make great date movies, especially for people who aren't completely dullards. Anyway, at least they give us a little more on the film's plot:

"A village in Protestant northern Germany. 1913-1914. On the eve of World War I. The story of the children and teenagers of a choir run by the village schoolteacher, and their families: the baron, the steward, the pastor, the doctor, the midwife, the tenant farmers. Strange accidents occur and gradually take on the character of a punishment ritual. Who is behind it all?"

--- It's A Pink Bear - Slash/Film finds an Easter Egg in the trailer for Pixar's Up that shows off a future character from their Toy Story 3 film, and documents Pixar's history of doing such things. Anyway, anybody else super duper thrilled about a third Toy Story film? I trust Pixar enough at this point - blindly one might say - to believe they waited until they had a story to tell, and the second one was SO wonderful, better tham the first even, that I can't wait.

--- Fine Young Cannibals - BD has word on the next project from French horror auteur Xavier "Frontière(s)" Gens, called Vanikoro, and it sounds pretty awesome:

"Philip Seymour Hoffman and Viggo Mortensen [are] attached to star. Gens tells us shooting is to begin in New Zealand and Australia in 2010 as he is still working on the script that mixes the story of the Indianapolis S.S. with an island of hungry cannibals.

The French explorer La Perouse, was wrecked on Vanikoro in 1788. The ship Boussole was destroyed on a reef along with most of the crew. The second ship Astrolabe was also wrecked, but survivors salvaged enough to build a small ship and sailed away. Two survivors remained on the island into the early 1800's.

Gens told us at the Toronto International Film Festival two years back that the crew will take on tiger sharks before landing on an island of cannibals."
