6 Off My Head - The '00's Are For Love

For some reason last night whilst ever-so-slightly intoxicated I made a list of My Six Favorite Romances of the Aughts and emailed it to myself for posting today. As you should know, when I say "Favorite Romances" we're not really speaking of the portraits of perfect loving bliss. No, but these relationships have had something original, from my perspective, to say about love and its horrible, wonderful nature. And they were the first ones that came to mind and I've not given this an iota more thought since then but I figured hey, this is fun, everybody can tell me how I'm weird and also what I'm forgetting! Anyway, I was drunk. But this seems like a great list to me looking at it now even here in the stone-cold-sober light of late afternoon.

Joel & Clementine, Eternal Sunshine...

Tommy & Izzi, The Fountain

Randy & Cassidy, The Wrestler

Guy & Girl, Once

Barry & Lena, Punch Drunk Love

Jack & Ennis, Brokeback Mountain

And I probably can guess the answer to this
question beforehand, but here goes:

Joel & Clementine could be my favorite couple in general, so... probably them.

Just make it a top 10 and include some of these

Jesse and Celine, Before Sunset
Amélie and Nino, Amélie
Christian and Satine, Moulin Rouge!
Robbie and Cecilia, Atonement
Tessa and Justin, The Constant Gardener

Love the choices. My own picks would include those you listed, and the at the top would be "Before Sunrise"/"Before Sunset" and "In the Mood for Love."

Good call on "The Constant Gardener," Victor. It never would have come to mind when thinking of romance movies and yet it's a fantastic one. A really devastating one.

On second thought I definitely give the prize to Jesse and Celine of "Before Sunset" because it's so hopeful and promising and authentic, even though they're not even officially a "couple." And they're both still alive - which is rare in most romances - hopefully missing that plane.
