Somebody Call A Carpenter

The last feature film that John Carpenter made was the unfortunate Ghosts of Mars - how does a lesbian Pam Grier go so wrong? - in 2001. He did a couple of episodes in the Masters of Horror series after that - I thought "Cigarette Burns" had it's moments; I haven't seen the other episode he did yet - but that's been it. Now comes word that he's gonna make a movie (via):

"The legendary John Carpenter (Halloween, The Fog, In the Mouth of Madness, The Thing), will direct The Ward, written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) has signed on to star. The Ward is an intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen (played by Heard) is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she could have imagined. Production is scheduled for a May start."

If you read further at that link, Carpenter praises Heard and the producer praises him and it's all lovey dovey and stuff. I thought Mandy Lane was alright - one of the rare movies made far better by its ending - and Heard was alright in it, but that's all I've seen her in so I can't profess great enthusiasm at her.

What I can profess great enthusiasm about however is John Carpenter maybe getting the chance to make up for not having made a good movie in twenty years. I can stand behind that hope. Come on, John! You've got it in ya. I hope he's hungry to prove himself again.

I liked "Cigarette Burns" but the other one, "Pro-Life" was AWFUL. One of the worst things I've ever seen.
