Is anybody else feeling totally blown out, movie-wise? I spent the second week of my holiday vacation catching up on movies I felt the need to see before I started thinking about my Best Of '08 shenanigans, and it hasn't stopped. I've seen too much in the past two weeks! My brains are feeling a little squishy with it. Like I was just thinking about what I'd be doing tonight, and it appears to be a double-bill:

I hadn't even heard of Heartbeat Detector until earlier today, when this bit by Nick led me to this Top 10 by Guy at In Contention who called it (his #9 film) "a Haneke-cool deconstruction of office ethics and politics" and onto the Must-Watch list the film went (conjure up the name Haneke, conjure up my immediate interest). Thankfully you can watch Heartbeat Detector instantly on Netflix, so this ought to prove a last-minute viewing feat simple enough.

But still. I'll be catching another two-fer later this week - Frozen River and Happy-Go-Lucky (thanks, Joe!) - and then I appear to be 100% as far as I'm gonna get for the 2008 releases right now (unless I find myself the time to see Tell No One; I do want to catch that if I can... and I have a copy of The Edge of Heaven to watch too... argh, see what I mean? Neverending!).

I have 0.00 interest in seeing the following:

Frost/Nixon, Gran Torino, The Changeling, Seven Pounds...
And you can't make me!
Anyway, what movie(s) are y'all still desperate to catch up on before ringing the death knell on 2008? I realize that my living in NYC makes my access to the majority of Important Films here at year's end a little more substantial than people living in other places and my whining may seem indecent to those still waiting for many of these films to come anywhere near them. It isn't going to stop me from whining though.

You're awesome. That is all.
I try!
I just watched Baghead a couple of days ago. Not bad.
A little scary in a "that's really happening kind of way" but the performances kind of killed it. Especially the woman who plays Michelle. She was kind of a flake. But she's got nice breasts.
Well then I've got something to look forward to tonight then, Piper! Mmmhmm boobies.
*grumble grumble*
Did you know Synecdoche, NY doesn't even have a release date here. Ugh.
I loved Baghead, Tell No One, and Happy Go Lucky! They are so good! I hope Sally Hawkins is remembered at Oscar time.
But I really enjoyed Frost/Nixon -- the acting was amazing. Love my Sam Rockwell. But another terrific turn by the cool Rebecca Hall. Beautiful! Another Oscar nom!!! I want to see Gran Turino. I liked Changeling. I am surprised that I never heard of that murder case before -- truly horrific! I don't think I'll see Seven Pounds anytime soon.
Watch Edge of Heaven. I watched it last night and it is quite good when you get over the fact that elements of it are (dare I say) a bit Crash-ian.
