A Mother & Son Thang

So MamaJA is coming to visit this weekend and I have to find ways to entertain her. We're going to see a show, do some shopping, ogle some Xmas lights, so forth. I also want to take her to see a movie, because that is the perfect way to lose two-plus hours while sitting, which is a very important way to spend time with out-of-town visitors in New York.

There are three new movies out this weekend that I want to see. Here they are:

So here's the problem - MamaJA, bless her heart, well her favorite film genre could best be described as Cinema Of The Talking Dog. Animate a pooch's lips and give them some wacky lingo to spout and she's in heaven.

Not exacly the kind of movies that I'm considering. Still, I feel the urge to make her try to watch More Important Films, ya know? Like any good and obnoxious cinephile worth his weight in his own bloated opinions.

So I ask you, The People: Which of these movies would it be the least cruel to inflict upon MamaJA?

And no, just because there is a dog in Wendy & Lucy, that doesn't instantly equal a ringer, I don't think. That film, as much as I want to see it, seems a little spacey, a little independent, for my mother. I am leaning towards Doubt because everybody likes Meryl Streep, right?

I should also note that this visit will steal me away
until Tuesday, so y'all have a nice weekend!

It seems like Doubt is probably the safest. Many reviews I've read for Wendy and Lucy suggest sad times regarding the fate of the dog.

I agree. I would say Doubt is your friendliest choice.

Yes, I'd go with "Doubt," but how is it that we have the same mother?

Do not take her to "The Reader". I saw it with my Mom at a preview screening and she actually fell asleep at one point. That is one long, slow movie. Plus, watching older lady/younger man sex scenes with your mother? Awkward.

Excellent point there, Stephanie. Excellent point.

My mom's the same way, and she genuinely wants to see Doubt, so I would definitely recommend that for the situation.

Why is it I never thought inevitably seeing The Reader with mom because I'm too young to see alone would be as Stephanie put it, though? Usually I'm good with determining awkwardness for movies I'm forcing her to see. Hm.

She won't shut up about Nazis, so w/e.

As a dog lover myself, I have been warned off of Wendy and Lucy by multiple people despite my love for Michelle Williams, so yeah, I'd go with Doubt. :)
