Oh, Ja. I wish I could celebrate with you. I live in Florida and Florida voters seem to be overwhelmingly in support of proposition 2, which, if passed, will ban gay marriage. And, with 90% of the precincts reporting, all indications are that it will pass! Proposition 8 in California is probably going to pass as well. How did this happen? Democratic voters showed up at polling stations across the country in record numbers this election year and (thankfully!) supported Obama, as well as others Democratic candidates.

I put in a lot of effort in Florida, working with various groups to educate Florida voters about how prop 2 is unconstitutional. All that time and effort was pointless. Honestly, I feel betrayed by "progressive" voters. Oh well, so much for our human rights!

Looks like we're losing in California too. So sad, and I feel pulled in two ways. On the one hand, I'm excited to hear Obama include gays as part of the citizenry of America, and yet, the majority of voters in my state have decided to make me a second class citizen again.

Gay Marriage will come. Within our lifetimes. I have no doubt of that fact. Shitty that these things passed today, but the future will be ours, y'all. I refuse to let two steps backwards dull my expectations for what will come. I believe people will get it eventually. Soon. I do.

The Prop 102 "marriage is one man, one woman" BS passed in Arizona too. It really tempers the election for me b/c it means I live in a state that is filled with people that just have to hate someone and, by god, if we can't hate blacks I guess we'll just switch to gays.

I'm really curious if what some of the predictors said is true - that the same minority vote that was going to get Obama elected (blacks and latinos) was also going to get the anti-gay marriage amendments passed too. B/c the traditionally oppressed, recently validated people turning around and oppressing others is really just too, too depressing to even consider.

So people, really, we need to get a federal law passed. I am holding out absolutely no hope for my current state to get over this vitrol anytime soon. And if you saw who got re-elected as sheriff here in Phoenix, you'd understand.
