Well what did we think of last night's Pushing Daisies premiere? It felt all warm and fuzzy to me, like old friends-with-benefits reunited. So sweet, so tender, so balls-out hysterically funny. I had to readjust my ears to the rapid-fire patois anew; I swear there are the corpses of seventeen jokes scattered behind me that I missed even on my second viewing. Here's to a third! And here are five random moments that leap to the fore-lobe of my brains that I feel deserve a shout-out.

1 - Obviously. I wouldn't be me if I didn't give some love to the "Lee Pace is in his boxers" scene. So love, for that. But what I found especially delightful in this moment was actually happening on the other side of the screen with Chuck and her old-timey undergarments:

Of course she'd be wearing something like that under her clothes! Just perfect. It's the little touches like that that fit into this crazy world so well that keep me coming back for more. Well, those... and Lee Pace in his boxers.

2 - Speaking of Anna Friel's costuming choices, can I get an unwieldly whoop-whoop in favor of her return to poofy girly-girl dresses? There was that weird side-step into Janis Joplin hippie clothes for a couple of episodes last season that worried me; I'm happy to see her looking lovely again. She might just be my favorite costumed female (outside of Mad Men) on TV.

3 - Lil' Gum Shoe! I adore the idea of Lil Gum Shoe, and that it's giving Emerson some much needed filling out of his back-story. Chi McBride is so terrific, I'm happy to see him get some hints towards fleshier stories of his own to come. But mostly, I just love the name "Lil' Gum Shoe", and I literally whispered it under my breath every time it made an appearance. (Lil' Gum Shoe)

4 - Everything having to do with Olive Snook and the delightful lil' firebrand playing her, Kristen Chenoweth. I'd never have guessed before this show that Chenoweth would be the one to win me over, but she has, hardcore. From her breakdown ("You and you and you and you and your hump!") to her Sound of Music abscondation (ed.- is that a word?) to the "cabbage patch = lady parts" equation that Nat gave some love to today... pure bliss, but at the same time tempered by Chenoweth's ability to shade the edges with real sadness. She's wonderful.

Olive + convent = amazingness.
I heart this show completely, though I'm a little scared by those ratings last night. I hope that ABC is invested in getting more of those Emmys (maybe the best thing to come out of that show would be the investment in this show).
It was so glorious!
And yes, props to Cheno for her wonderfully kooky and lovable performance (oh her inner turmoil surrounding her worldly possessions - hysterical!)
Yes, it's wonderful to have this show back for Season 2. I can satisfy my Daisies craving between Wednesdays now by watching Season 1 episodes on DVD. --Walter, Minnesota
