Random Video of the Day

I haven't seen Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (aka Kenneth Branagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein) since it came out, and I have no recollection of whether I liked it or not - I really sort of forgot it even exists, to be honest.

But now that io9 went and posted this scene of a shirtless Branagh and a lubed-up and naked Robert DeNiro rolling around on the floor of Dr. Frank's lab, I am having some slight recollections of this being smack-dab in Branagh's Self-Love Period, in which he lovingly shot his own lats and pectorals in exhausting detail, be it in this movie or in his Hamlet.

I kinda sorta feel the need to go back and watch this movie again, and soon. Anyone have an opinion on it? A fresher memory than mine? Do share.

I used to have a crush on Branagh during this phase. This movie, however, is pretty bad. I'm a huge SF fan and since this movie was produced by Coppola I thought that it would have at least the same quality of DRACULA (a movie I particularly love). However, De Niro can't act with all that makeup and Branagh is a little over the top with its 'shakespereanisms'. The scene of the creation of the monster really remains the best of the movie - not only because it is really creative, but also because of Branagh torso hehe.

Luv your blog. Greetings from Brazil.

Coppola's Dracula is wonderful. WONDERFUL! Love it. Love everything, including Keanu and Winona's much-dissed performances. Accents be damned, that movie captures a feeling, notsomuch from Stoker's book but rather from the legend it turned into. It's tawdry and overwrought and wonderful.

It's overcooked and operatic and not in a good way. A total misfire that comes off campy and silly while pretending it's serious, poigniant, and scary.

I haven't seen this in forever, but I watched it soon after studying the book in college. And, well, it pissed me off so much in its changes from the original story that I thought were fundamental. So, the fact that it was entitled "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" just really irked me. I do like Branagh in general though.
