5 Off The Top Of My Head - Emma Rules!

.

The illustrious, the amazing Emma Thompson turns 49 today. In her honor, I choose five of her great performances. And y'all... five was tough. I could've gone with ten. Or fifteen. Forty maybe. Quite possibly everything I've ever seen her do, really (except Junior.... let us make no mention of Junior... forget I brought it up!). Seriously though, don't yell at me because Angels In America or Wit or The Remains of the Day or Professor Trelawney in the Harry Potter movies and so on and so forth aren't here... they could've been, but I decided to go with a somewhat more random assortment. She's always great. Feel free to tell me your favorite performances of hers in the comments!

Elinor Dashwood, Sense & Sensibility (1995)
"Believe me, Marianne, had I not been bound to silence
I could have provided proof enough of a broken heart,
even for you. "

Grace/Margaret Strauss, Dead Again (1991)
"I just shot him..."

Karen Eiffel, Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
"I don't need a nicotine patch.
I smoke cigarettes."

Karen, Love, Actually (2003)
"There was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus?"

Margaret Schlegel, Howard's End (1992)
"Mr. Wilcox, I am demented!"

I adore her SO much. The scene near the end of "Sense and Sensibility" where she freakin' LOSES it, laughing and crying and hiding her face in her apron is the first time I've ever cried with joy watching a movie. She kicks such ass.

I can't even pick, especially off the top of my head, but her Beatrice in Much Ado and her uncharacteristically stern work in The Winter Guest and her straw-haired bohemian in Carrington would all be up there, for me. Though none of them would touch Margaret Schlegel.
