Hey y'all! Remember Rendition? I know you don't. And you don't care now either! But I do, and it's coming to DVD on February 19th. So all y'all who took a pass in theaters can give it a chance then. I know I'm a biased fan-boy, but Jake Gyllenhaal really does give one of his best-so-far performances as CIA Agent Douglas Freeman, who transforms from paper-pusher to dead-eyed drunk to someone who finds their humanity again. And Reese and Meryl are both terrific too. Here's my original review.
I know, y'all know that the real reason I went a'seeking for Rendition's release date is obvious: once it's on DVD I can finally get my claws on screen-grabs of Jake's boxer-shorted scene in the film. I'm simple. But the movie itself is better than they ("they" being The Man, of course) have let on, and I do look forward to seeing it again. If only they hadn't marketed it with Reese's shrilly breakdown as their central cinematic image! It had loads to offer other than that. Plus Jake-flesh! No going wrong, I tell ya!
