Polley Amorous

.

Why doesn't Sarah Polley work more? I know, she comes across as the type who just works when she wants to, does whatever the eff she wants to, and that's part of why I adore her... I just want her to want to work more, ya know? One of the other things that makes her so wonderful is that she had admitted a love of scary movies and that, when she isn't directing touching portraits of love through the haze of Alzheimer's, she'll sign on for deeply geeky genre projects like the following (via BD):

"Sarah Polley will join the previously announced Adrien Brody in Splice, a science fiction thriller being directed by Vincenzo Natali (Cube)...

The story explores a dark vision of the world of genetic engineering in which two young scientists become superstars by splicing different animal DNA to create fantastical new creatures. They ignore the legal and ethical boundaries and introduce human DNA into their experiment."

Sounds Moreau-tastic! Cube is a terrific little mind-fuck; I haven't seen any of Natali's movies since that, though. Adrien Brody... I can take or leave. I think Scott Speedman, her husband in My Life Without Me, could use work. Mmm Scott Speedman...

ETA Not sure how I missed this this morning, but AICN has a gallery of conceptual art for Splice, and it's... quite worth looking at, and has me more interested in the movie than before. Here's a sample image:

Fuh-reaky.

Oh, so Brody shaves his chest? This is the first time I've seen him with hair on his chest. Weird.

Cube is fuckin' brilliant, Cypher (Natali's followup) was actually pretty decent too, but no Cube.
